Episode 2: Happily Ever After (telecast on 16 March 2008)
In our second episode of Rouge, love was in the air! Celebrity couple Melody Chen and Randall Tan talked about how they eventually became a couple. Starting out as friends, then moving on to the best pals stage, their friendship blossomed into love only when Melody nursed Randall through a severe illness.
The actor was stricken with Guillian-Barre Syndrome, a rare disorder that attacks the peripheral nervous system, causing paralysis to the arms, upper body and legs. But with endless support and encouragement from Melody, Randall made a full recovery. And as the Rouge audience discovered, it was during this crisis that the two realized that they had gone beyond platonic friendship. They were in love.
Come April 26, the cute couple will be embarking on the next step of their lives together.
Couple fashion – it’s dicey business trying to dress alike as a couple, so Rouge came up with a fashion guide. The Deal or No Deal girls and hunks paired up to show the way with outfits designed to have people go `wow!’ instead of `eeewww!’.
Next, we listened to the story of Raymond and Doris Fernando who have been married for more than 30 years. Theirs is not a typical love story – coming from different races and different religions, they incurred their parents’ disapproval when they started courting. But Raymond was determined to make Doris his wife, even when he found out that she suffers from schizophrenia.
The Rouge audience was touched when Raymond related his heart-wrenching story of struggling to find acceptance from society for his wife, their increasing isolation from families and friends, his struggles with his wife’s illness and above all, his undying love for his wife. The couple are authors of 3 best-sellers and if you’d like to get hold of their books or learn more about them, log onto www.rayofhope.per.sg
For unique dining experiences for couples, Rouge featured three places. For the couple who’s on the look-out for new experiences, uber-sleek Aurum Restaurant at Clarke Quay offers a novel cuisine called molecular gastronomy. The Imperial Herbal Restaurant’s singular approach has a sinseh recommending dishes based on your constitution, making for a meal that boosts health and (ahem) vitality. And Rang Mahal is the place to be if you want to impress your partner with authentic Indian fare in a truly romantic setting. Check out these websites to find out more!
