Last night alone, 1,672,000 number of viewers tuned in to ‘the Little Nyonya’ 2-hour back-to-back finale telecast. Already No.1 most-watched in the last 15 years, this finale night alone is huge by any standard. It even shot up to as high as 33.8%!  The drama reached out to 65.1% of the population or 2,884,000 viewers who had somehow tuned in and watched The Little Nyonya throughout its telecast period since launch!

When was the last time a TV drama kept people away from the street, restaurants and the other people-packed hangouts?

Last night, I had dinner at a popular Toa Payoh’s restaurant and only just a few tables were occupied with customers. I asked the waitress and she said she had never seen such a poor turnout in her years at the restaurant regardless of economic situations.  I read in today's paper someone commented that the host at a wedding banquet requested for the screening of the drama first before they carried on with their next wedding item - Karaoke...’小娘惹The Little Nyonya’ really brought back the joy of chasing after a drama serial like there was no tomorrows…haha…

小娘惹The Little Nyonya’ All-New Kuso Finale

Not happy with the original ending? There are many versions posted by netizens on the internet. Here’s my favorite:

月娘 begged 刘一刀 to go to S'pore to save 玉珠. So 刘一刀 went to the Zhang's home, determined to bring 玉珠 back to Malacca. Robert initially refused, and soon a scuffle broke out between the 2 men. And with a slick flick of his butcher's knife, 刘一刀 managed to turn Robert into a eunuch. Amidst the chaos, 玉珠and 刘一刀 escaped...and while they were running, their eyes met, and it was lust at first sight for 玉珠 and 刘一刀. They got married after getting back to Malacca and lived together happily ever after. 玉珠's mental condition miraculously recovered in a years time under 刘一刀's tender loving care. Eventually, they gave birth to 3 beautiful daughters, namely 肥猪,懒猪 and 笨猪... collectively known as the 3 只小猪. Dun worry, 刘一刀 no longer slaughters pigs for a living (see below, he started helping 月娘 in her business), so their kids are in no danger.

陈锡 - moved to England, where he previously studied. He realised that Nyonya food will be a new and unique cuisine in England, and so decided to set up a Nyonya food empire, with chicken soup (还我鸡汤) as the signature dish of his food empire. He eventually became a very successful food entrepreneur. And for his contribution to England's food industry, he was knighted as Sir ChenXi. remains unmarried.

月娘 - remained in S'pore and Malacca to expand her bird's nest business. Set up New Moonlady (literally 新月娘) Bird's Nest Company to rival the New Moon Abalone Company. While New Moon hired Fann Wong to advertise for it, 月娘 hired 欧萱 to advertise for her New Moonlady Bird's Nest Company. 月娘 became CEO of the company, and her brother 刘一刀 became vice-CEO. Through her sheer intelligence and wit, and with 刘一刀 help, New Moonlady Bird's Nest Company became the premier bird's nest company in Singapore. 月娘 also became the richest women in S'pore. Remains unmarried.

Year 2008 Coundown Party at Vivocity, organized by Channel 8 - Old 陈锡 returned to S'pore for a business trip. Despite their old age, Old 月娘 and Old 陈锡 still feel young at heart and decided to join the young crowd for the countdown party at Vivocity. As luck will have it, they met at the party, and recognized each other instantly. They realized that they still have deep feelings for each other, and so decided to get married and live together happily ever after.

‘小娘惹The Little Nyonya’  Goes Overseas

This drama will be screened in Malaysia this month and soon all over China, Vietnam and Cambodia. People of these countries will learn about our unique Peraranakan cultures and our stars may become even bigger overseas…

ALL-NEW: ‘The Little Nyonya’ Celebration Event 小娘惹庆功会

If we are able to nail a satisfying venue (any mall daring enough to take us in after almost bringing down Compass Point the last time?), we will get the whole cast to appear once again very soon (if their schedules permit) in characters to thank all viewers and fans for your support in creating history.

Now, let's move on to '团圆饭 Reunion Dinner' tonight at 9pm - different genre of drama also written by the same person behind 'The Little Nyonya'. Starring some of TV best actors and actresses like Chen han Wei, Kym Ng, Chen Li Ping and Patricia Mok, it will be different but many of you will like it because we need something easy and light-hearted after 34 epsiodes of intense emotional ride with 'The Little Nyonya'.

It is finally coming to the last episode on Monday after so many months of mega-hype and mega talked-about on this drama alone…

Recapping the highlights...a never-seen-before massive turnout of fans at the outdoor event left Compass Point’s shattered with floor tiles cracking up due to the enormous presence of 5000 screaming fans. Easily the biggest turnout by any standard - surpassing even the good old days of 5566, 飞轮海Fahrenheit and SHE…

Jeanette Aw 欧萱 and Dai Yang Tian 戴阳天 sweeping most of the ‘Top 8 Most Likeable 年度8大最喜爱’ awards at the ‘Ch 8 Countdown Party’ televised LIVE on 31 Dec somehow turned up the heat of ‘The Little Nyonya’ to a new level high…

No longer in the league of the 7 Princesses, the audience and media now recognized Jeanette as the 3rd generation Ah-Jie 阿姐 after many years of just sticking with only Zoe and Fann. Even newcomer Dai Yang Tian is tipped to be the next biggest Ah-Ge 阿哥 in the making…

The drama not only rewrote all TV records many times and finally becoming No.1 in 15 years last week, it is even widening the gap from the other dramas as we speak... Last Thursday’s (I only have up to Thursday) ratings set a new record high and easily the most-watched TV show on any given night!

Come Monday, the two hour back-to-back finale will most probably become the highest ever!

I read on the internet that many viewers are hoping for ‘The Little Nyonya’ Part 2 and even ‘The Little Nyonya – the Movie’. Some even written suggestions as to how the Part 2 could be played out…

All good things will come to an end… For many fans of the drama, I think many will develop this ‘withdrawal syndrome’ when the drama ends on Monday…some sort of ‘emptiness’ like ‘missing something you so cherished for a while’…It always happens when you like something so deeply…

The next light-hearted drama ‘Reunion Dinner 团圆饭’ (also written by the same guy behind ‘The Little Nyonya 小娘惹’, ‘Stepping Out 出路’, ‘Holland V 荷兰村’ and ‘The Golden Path 黄金路’ and starring Chen Liping, Chen Han Wei, Kym Ng, Patricia Mok) will debut on Tuesday 6 January. Will it match up to the wild craze of its predecessor?

You be the judge.

‘The Little Nyonya 小娘惹’Jeanette Aw 欧萱 wins 4 out of 8 ‘Most Likeable Female Lead Characters of the Year 年度8大最喜爱的女角色’!

Her winning roles included her dual roles in ‘The Little Nyonya’ as 菊香Juxiang and 月娘Yueniang and other roles in ‘沸腾冰点The Defining Moment’ and ‘变奏曲Rhythm of Life’.

Felicia Chin is the other female artiste with two awards for her roles in 心花朵朵开Love Blossoms and 黄金路 Golden Path. With Jeanette winning 4 awards and Felicia with 2 awards, the remaining ‘Most Likeable Female Lead Characters of the Year 年度最喜爱的女角色’were roles played by Rui En 瑞恩 (不凡的爱 By My Side) and Fann Wong 范文芳 (沸腾冰点The Defining Moment).

Viewers were invited to vote online for their ‘Top 8 Most Likeable Male Lead Characters 年度8大最喜爱的男角色’ and ‘Top 8 Most Likeable Female Lead Characters 年度8大最喜爱的女角色’. The result was announced just now at ‘8频道跨年派对Channel 8 Countdown Party’ televised LIVE from VivoCity.

Newcomer 戴阳天Dai Yang Tian who shot to fame with his role in ‘The Little Nyonya小娘惹’as Jeanette’s ill-fated Japanese lover ’山本洋介Yamamoto Yousuke’ bagged two awards for the same role and his previous role in ‘缘之烩Taste of Love’. 李铭顺Christopher Lee also bagged two top awards for his roles in ‘变奏曲Rhythm of Life’ and ‘球爱大战Beach. Ball. Babes’.

The other winners of Top 8 Most Likeable Male Lead Characters 年度8大最喜爱的男角色 were Huang Wen Yong 黄文永 (一房半厅一水缸 Just in Singapore), Chen Han Wei  陈汉伟 (不凡的爱 By My Side), Pierre Png 方展发 (沸腾冰点 The Defining Moment) and Elvin Ng 黄俊雄 (不凡的爱 By My Side).

Other artistes such as Zoe Tay 郑惠玉, Li Nanxing 李南星, Qi Yu Wu 戚玉武, Jesseca Liu 刘芷绚, Joanne Peh 白薇秀, Tay Ping Hui 郑斌辉, Chen Liping 陈莉萍, Ivy Lee 李锦梅 and others failed to garner enough votes in the poll to win ‘Top 8 Most Likeable of the Year’.

The Official Website polling (from November 24 - December 1) collected close to a million votes in total.

Happy New Year to all the winners and stars out there reading and YOU who come to my blog so often...may 2009 be a better year for you all! God Bless You!

Interestingly, you can see from the official list that most of the top 10 most-watched dramas were screened in recent years.

Not scared of the maddening crowd at Compass Point’s 小娘惹event and still longing for one last time? Yes, it was super-packed but it was fun…how often do you get to experience such a ‘warm’ gathering of fans?

Your last chance to see your favorite ‘The Little Nyonya’ cast is here.

One of the biggest highlights of the party is the announcement of the ‘Top 8 Most Likeable Male and Female Leading Characters of 2008’. This will most probably give you a good preview of what you may see at the upcoming 2009 Star Awards ‘Top Most Popular’ awards… it will pave the way for a new set of Top 10 Favorite Artistes to come!

For those with little children, I suggest you watch the event at home on Ch 8 at 10.30pm. If you have gotten the tickets to catch the show at Vivo City, you are advised to go early if you want a good front row seat (have you forgotten how it was like when you turned up too closed to showtime at Compass Point?).

It’s been a year since I first started this 八卦电视台博客 BaguaTV blog. Thanks to all the support of the media professionals in the entertainment industry, artistes and you behind your comp, it has become the major source of entertainment news reference...latest news, breaking news, artistes’ gossips - you name it…

I wouldn’t dare say I have 捧红 any artiste but it did help a little bit for some stars lah…

I read your comments religiously every day because they provide me with valuable feedback with regards to the content I put up. The number of hits achieved per post also provides me with an indication as to the type of content you most preferred…

I am also happy to see more and more artistes who are into blogging. You can really ‘interact’ a lot more with them these days through their blogs. I have decided to put some selected artistes’ blog links on BaguaTV so more people will get to know about these talented stars (just click onto any of the artistes’ blog links on the right side of this blog):

欧萱 Jeanette who once gave the impression of an Ice Cold Beauty 冰山美人is now so much more ‘human’ and approachable in her blog entries…anger, hurts, pains, laughters, happiness, etc.

白薇秀 Joanne Peh is surprisingly quite good with her reviews of movies…原来是一位有才气的公主喔。。。

陈靓瑄 Felicia used to be quite a regular blogger I admired but I see fewer entries these days (Felicia, you are missed, must die die keep it coming, dear)…

刘芷绚 Jesseca Liu is a simple Princess …easily contended and happy…

戴阳天 Dai Yang Tian is someone with little words but 他懂得如何抓住重点

洪赐健 Joshua is better blogging than facing the media…Ah Boy, your future is bright but it will only come at the price of a lot of hard work and you really will need to work very very hard…

鹤天赐 Nat Ho is quite a down-to-earth fellow with his blog article on simple daily chores like catching ants…haha…

许振荣 Dasmond is a regular blogger and you can tell he is always a big brother (he loves the Campus SuperStar kids) but during emo times, he is quite emotionally ‘vulnerable’ lor…(hehe…maybe it is time to settle down lah, brother)…

Anyway, if you know of any artistes who are into blogging, please drop me a comment with the star’s blog address and I will link it up on this BaguaTV blog (fake’ blogs will be persecuted). I will only link to the star's blog if he or she blogs at least once a week (if the star doesn't even bother to upkeep his or her blog regularly, why should I or you be bothered about them then)...

Btw…I have also made my bold prediction of ‘2009 Top 10 Hottest Stars to Watch’ in this week’s issue of i-weekly (will be in Part 1 & 2), go buy a copy and find out who I predicted lor…

It was one of the largest turnout of fans in recent years at today’s ‘The Little Nyonya’ one and only outdoor event at Compass Point. I estimated between 4,000-5,000 people filled up every imaginable space left at Compass Point…every floor, every corner and every escalator (they were stopped momentarily and were filled with fans). Host Ben Yeo even joked that the turnout made them all felt like ‘superstars’ (you all are dear). The last time when there was such a massive response to an event was during the peak period of 绝对SuperStar (season one batch of Kelvin Tan Wei Lian, Kelly Poon, Derrick Hoh Wei Jian and Chew Sin Huey)…And the tiles of Compass Point cracked and popping out as a result of the massive turnout and the overly-excited crowd!

The crowd was still manageable when they first arrived with some pushing and shoving but it ran amok when they were leaving…maybe they were reluctant to see the stars leaving…and wanted a 'last bit of them'…

One of my female colleagues (there were a few of them from both Promo, Airtime Sales and Artiste’s Management Unit) who escorted the first batch of stars including Pan Ling Ling, Cynthia Koh and Eelyn Kok came back to the waiting room with teary eyes…she was shocked and never expected the audience (children, teens, men, women, aunties, uncles) to grab, hug and grope the artistes. She was shocked beyond words and looking really frightened as she feared their modesty might be violated as she suspected there might be 咸猪手乘乱出手amidst the chaos…

Like some military planning, we quickly strategized a new exit plan for the remaining group - it included the lead stars - Jeanette Aw, Joanne Peh, Dai Yang Tian and Qi Yu Wu. The male leading stars (being guys so not so scared lah) would also ‘double-up’ as ‘bodyguards’ around the ladies…I personally also turned bodyguard and we all made a dash for the bus…

Immediately after Jeanette walked straight out from the waiting room into the crowd, the grabbing, groping and pulling started…she almost lost her balance and fell into the hysterical crowd but her manager (who is quite a muscular one), pulled her back and ‘wrapped’ her safely in her embrace (don’t play play with her two muscular arms) and they both forced their way through…as for me, I was already swallowed up by the crowd behind me (I was supposed to block them from surging forward) and I didn’t even manage to last another minute as a ‘bodyguard’… I hope those who pulled, grabbed and groped were just fans simply out of their love for the stars and not some 咸猪手 as we were not able to nail down the 'wolves amongst the sheeps'...

I better advise the Producer behind the next show ‘8频道跨年派对Channel 8 Countdown Party’ (at Vivo City and telecast LIVE on 31 Dec at 10.30pm) to put in extra security guards as the main leading stars of ‘The Little Nyonya’ (Jeanette Aw, Dai Yang Tian, Qi Yu Wu and many others) will be appearing…

By the way, the top 3 stars with the loudest cheers at Compass Point today were as followed (in order of loudness):

1.    Jeanette Aw

2.    Qi Yu Wu

3.    Dai Yang Tian

Are you ready for them at ‘8频道跨年派对Channel 8 Countdown Party’?

P.S.: More videos of Compass Point's event on stage will be uploaded onto this blog article soon (including Olivia Ong's singing the theme song)...

The Peranakan Museum people were there with a booth and I saw many people picking up brochures from them and someone passed me a travel brochure from a big travel agent advertising 'The Little Nyonya' tour to Malacca (visiting those places that were featured in the drama)...fast to ride on the hype...

Here’s today’s Straits Times Life article on how well ‘The Little Nyonya’ has performed. Yes, it’s not only the No.1 of 2008 but also No.1 drama of the last 8 years!!!

It has already bagged an award at next year’s Star Awards for winning the ‘Top Rated Drama Serial’.

If it ever goes beyond the 30% (now the highest is at 26.3%) in ratings, it will become the No.1 Drama in the last 15 years!

You have always wanted to know and the result of the most desired characters in ‘The Little Nyonya’ is out:

No.1 is 欧萱 Jeanette Aw as 菊香与月娘

No.2 is 戴阳天 Dai Yang Tian as 山本洋介

No.3 is 戚玉武 Qi Yu Wu as 陈锡

No.4 is 白薇秀 Joanne Peh as 玉珠

These are the 4 posters that garnered the highest votes in the poster voting campaign with i-Weekly recently. Are you surprised? I told you a while ago that newcomer 戴阳天Dai Yang Tian is the current fastest rising star because of his role as 山本洋介 and it is of no surprise to me he was highly voted by viewers and readers in this campaign. We have proceeded with printing this set of 4 posters and i-Weekly will inform those who voted to claim the posters.

It will be interesting to find out about the final result of the ‘2008 Top 8 Most Likeable Leading Male & Female Characters’ to be revealed at the ‘Channel 8 Countdown Party’ at Vivo City on 31 December at 10.30pm (LIVE telecast on Channel 8 as well). Hint: you will be in for a surprise and do not assume all stars who turn up will naturally win the Top 8…it will definitely be a BIG blast of an announcement…hehe…

By the way, with regards to the 100 pieces of the all-star-in-1 poster at the roadshow this Saturday 27 Dec at Compass Point, please be reminded that distribution will commence at 2pm and will be given out on a first-come-first-serve basis.

It's a draw with its one and only top opponent of the year – ‘the 3 ping pong girls’ match against China’ which attracted a lot of eyeballs (26.3% with Ch 5 and Ch U telecast combined). Last night episode (Monday) was the new highest recorded so far – at 26.3%!

It is not only the number one top rated drama serial of the year but at its highest with so many viewers, it is also the No.1 for the last 8 years! Will it cross the 30% point as it escalates towards the finale? That will make it the No.1 for the last 15 years!

Be prepared to be at Compass Point this Saturday as early as possible if you want to be near the stage. With its full cast in costumes and in characters, it will pack the whole Compass Point. Olivia Ong will also sing the theme song LIVE on Saturday. If you want to get hold of the 100-only posters to go on stage to get their signatures, you will need to be there earlier to get into the queue. We regret to inform you that we can’t print more than 100 and we can’t hold the artistes back too long to sign more than 100 posters. Please refrain from getting them to sign on anything except these posters to expedite the process.

Go and enjoy the last gathering with the cast and singer of ‘The Little Nyonya’ this Saturday. The serial is coming to an end soon on 5 January and this Saturday’s event is the one and only last event for ‘The Little Nyonya’…
