When Dasmond Koh 许振荣 in SuperBand prompted for Taiwanese judge 包小松 's turn to comment, he used the phrase: “现在轮到重量级说说…”

This visibly irritated another judge 玖建 who followed up with this remark: “我还是说到这里就好,不然其他两位没话好说。。。

Ouch!

当心直口快的 Dasmond said that, it was as good as making a public acknowledgement that the 3 judges were not ‘equal’ and if 包小松 was 重量级, the other two were…?

There is this ego issue and as a guest judge, he or she expects the same treatment regardless of ‘popularity’ or ‘achievements’. Sitting side-by-side on the same level is an indication of ‘equality’. Yes? No? Let’s face it, some judges do come with more ‘shiny’ credentials and many viewers at home will never see all judges as of the same ‘grade’. But when it was being ‘categorized’ on national TV, it felt like an insult.

The bands are competing on stage and this competitive spirit is often extended to the panel of judges as well if you observe them closely. Some may be harmless bantering but some are ‘serious’ catfight.

Like many artistes, most of them will never see themselves as ‘less popular’. They think they are just ‘unlucky’ or their bad fortunes have everything to do with their unwillingness to ‘suck up to important decision-maker’. Many just cannot face reality that you can't escape being ‘categorized’ ever since you were born on day one (well even after you die).

Do you as a viewer at home categorize these judges?
